History

PTK ARCHITECTS is a Chennai based firm established in 1983 comprising of well experienced work force of fifty architects and engineers many of whom have been with it for a decade or more. During its three decades of practice, the firm has been involved in several major industrial, educational, housing and commercial projects all over India and overseas.

The firm has developed as an integrated design and project management group, where architecture and engineering are equal partners in design and innovation, dealing with the entire spectrum of skills needed to establish a facility that is well networked into its larger environment.

Design Values

Creativity, disciplined planning and value engineering are our core skills which integrate architecture and engineering to produce elegant design and efficient space utilization with optimized cost. In the complex ethos of today they are needed all the more, to be able to make educated choices by avoiding the pitfalls and excesses in design that ignore contextual necessities. We explore and employ a wide range of scientific and engineering skills to produce environmentally sustainable and energy efficient buildings.

Cultural references and sensitivity to local contexts makes our design approach address concerns of the globalizing world where technology tends to override geographical and social context, helping people interact more closely with the built environment around them.

Leadership

PT Krishnan obtained his bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Madras in 1968 and went on to complete his M.Arch degree at the University of California at Berkeley in 1969. After working with the well known American firm of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill in New York, he returned to India in 1971. After an eleven year stint with another office he established this firm in 1983.

He has been a member in several government appointed planning committees concerned with city planning and has authored several papers on urban issues, especially urban conservation and the profession.

On the academic side he has been a member on the Board of Studies of the School of Architecture, Anna University and the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. He has also been associated with the School of Architecture, Anna University and the MEASI Academy as a visiting faculty.

An active heritage conservationist, he was the Convener of the Tamilnadu Chapter of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage for ten years.

Raja Shyam Sundar is a graduate in Bachelor of Architecture from School Of Architecture & Planning, Chennai in 1992. Special training in Interior De-signing and space Planning at the Institute of K.HaraAssociated Architects & Engineers, TOKYO.

Trained by well known Architects in India – Mr. Balakrishna V. Doshi, Ahmedabad (City Planning) & Mr.P.T Krishnan, Chennai (Institutional Buildings). Has three yeasrs of professional experience as Architect with LARSEN & TOUBRO LTD. – ECC CONSTRUCTION GROUP – During which most of the time was spent in designing and detailing of Township Master Plans for various Cement and Power plants in India. He is also a member of Indian Institute of Architects.
